Code BA12082953: English Hunter Compass by L. KAMM and Co., 1915

This is a nice WW1 officers hunter compass, engraved L. KAMM & Co., London, V 29257, 1915 and military arrow /|\. The Dennison case is Nickel plated and in excellent condition normal signs of use. It has two screws that firmly hold the compass to the case. It is marked with typical Dennison cases serial number 11809 M. The flat bevelled glass crystal covers the distinctive Singers patent style dial card. Both crystal and dial are in flawless condition. The last three digits of the inner serial number are marked next to the crystal. The compass is in full working order and finds North easily and precisely. When the release button is pressed the lid opens without any problem. This is a fairly rare compass. Size 4.7cm diameter.

The case maker was Aaron Lufkin Dennison of Birmingham UK, he manufactured watch cases from late 1874 at 24 Villa Road, Handsworth UK. As part of the war effort he diversified into compass cases. He was originally the Managing Director of the American Waltham Watch Company in the USA, where he made the very first watch with interchangeable parts and produced watches of Railway quality. He was known as the Founding Father of the American Watch Making Industry.
