The Boreal Arrow

Code BA130624205: French Compass by Secretan, Paris, c. 1920

This is a nice French open face compass dating from the early 1900s. It comes in nickelled-brass case in nice condition without dings or dents. With normal sign of aging to the plating. On the back it is engraved Secretan, Paris. Under the loop it has a big crown that must be pulled to release the needle and push it again to lock it in place. Locking the needle is recommended when the compass is carried and not in use. The compass has a metal dial with French cardinal points and a raised chapter ring numbered every 20 degrees and graduated every 2 degrees. The needle has a jewelled brass cap and finds North smoothly and precisely without any problem. Overall nice and unusual compass. It measures 45mm in diameter.
