Code BA15051901: Silver Gilded Aspray Compass Hallmarked London 1863

This is an unusual hunter cased compass made by ASPRAY London in 1863. It comes in a gilded sterling silver case that features nice engine turned patterns on both sides. It has a gold monogramed cartouche and has sterling silver hallmarks for London, 1863 with case maker's initials T. J. (Thomas Johnson). The inside of the lid is gilded and engraved with maker's name ASPRAY, 166 BOND STREET with a crown on top of it. The case is in excellent condition without any dings or dents as can be seen in the pictures. It has a strong hinge, opens and closes as it should. The compass has a bar needle with a jewelled brass cap. It is covered with a flat glass crystal without any chips or scratches. The compass is in fully working order and finds North easily and precisely. It has a transit locking system that operates when the lid is closed. It measures around 37mm in diameter.
