This is an officer pocket compass, made by F. BARKER & SON, London. The case is Nickel and still in excellent condition without dings or dents. It is engraved MK VI 1940 , F. BARKER & SON, (1932) LTD, with serial number B 6396. It has a military arrow /|\. The case is made by Dennison and has the serial number 8805. It has a strong hinge and the lid springs open as it should when the push button is pressed. The glass crystal is in excellent condition free of chips or scratches. The floating dial is also in excellent condition. In full working order pointing North precisely, with the transit lock when lid is closed. It measures 4.7cm in diameter.

The case maker was Aaron Lufkin Dennison of Birmingham UK, hemanufactured watch cases from late 1874 at 24 Villa Road, Handsworth UK. As partof the war effort he diversified into compass cases. He was originally theManaging Director of the American Waltham Watch Company in the USA, where hemade the very first watch with interchangeable parts and produced watches ofRailway quality. He was known as the Founding Father of the American Watch Making Industry.
