This is an extremely rare presentation compass made by H. Hughes & Son in 1884. The back of the case is engraved:

The compass case is nickel and in excellent condition without dings or dents. The compass has a Singer's Patent hand-painted mother-of-pearl dial, which is a real beauty. It is marked with the maker's name:

The dial is covered with a slightly domed glass crystal, which still in excellent condition without any chips or damage. The rotating dial swings freely and finds North easily. The transit lock is activated by pushing the button located under the bow. The dial is released when the button is pulled out. The compass measures around 51mm in diameter. The compass comes in a nice leather case that is still in excellent condition. It is stamped MADE IN ENGLAND. It has a push button to open the lid. It has a strong hinge and measures around 63mm in diameter. This is to be considered as extremely rare and has great value for the serious collector.
